Disciplines

Women’s format

Women’s competitions comprise three or four disciplines: Stock Saw, Single Buck, Underhand Chop and occasionally Standing Block Chop. However, the Standing Block Chop can be dropped from the competition, depending on the experience or skill level of the competitors.

Women generally chop and saw on smaller wood block diametres, apart from in the Stock Saw.

National Women’s cups and Women’s championships

All athletes complete the disciplines in the following order: Stock Saw, (Standing Block Chop,) Single Buck and Underhand Chop.

Once all athletes have completed a discipline, points are awarded on the times achieved. The maximum points awarded for each discipline is determined by the number of participating athletes. For example, in a competition with six athletes, the first placed athlete is awarded six points, down to one point for sixth place. Any infringement of the rules results in a disqualification and zero points from that discipline.

The athlete who achieves the most points across all three (or four) disciplines is the winner of the competition.

While all athletic levels – Rookie, Intermediate and Pro – are open to any gender, only women may participate in the Women’s competition format to guarantee fair conditions. For this, the rules and regulations of the TIMBERSPORTS® Series are based on the rules and regulations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
